CA Technologies has updated its CA Clarity Project Portfolio Management (PPM) software with a new user interface, one that the company hopes will appeal to a broader set of business users.
The potential audience for PPM software has expanded in the past few years, said Kelly Blice, a CA Technologies vice president of marketing for portfolio management software and services.
“Five years ago, IT people were used Clarity to manage or work on a project,” she said. “Now the business leaders are using it.”
Originally, IT departments used the software to manage their IT projects.

William McCracken took over as chief executive officer of CA Technologies close to two years ago and in that time has engineered a series of organizational changes and acquisitions aimed at improving the company’s perception among buyers and broadening its reach into new areas of technology and new customer segments. Among those acquisitions were the deals for authentication vendor Arcot (August 2010), application testing company Interactive TKO (ITKO; June 2011) and management-as-a-service provider Nimsoft (March 2010). Former CA Technologies Australia managing director, Brenton Smith, has jumped ship to Symantec’s Cloud division.
Smith had been with the company since 2005 and resigned last week for unnamed reasons. He has been temporarily replaced by Chris Wilson, who stepped in as the acting area vice-president.
A Symantec spokesperson confirmed that Smith will be joining the company in July as the vice president of Symantec.Cloud for Asia Pacific and Japan, and will be based in Singapore.
Previous vice president, Bjorn Engelhardt, has taken on a new position as the vice president of specialist sales for Asia Pacific and Japan.
